| Description: |
In October 1871, the Cascaden was bound for the Cove Island Lighthouse with a cargo of
supplies for the lighthouse keeper and his family who were in desperate straits. This 138 ton schooner was wrecked during a gale on the shoals of Cape Hurd. Today it is badly broken up and scattered over a wide area (including the shoreline). However, large parts of the hull, stern and rail are located about 100 metres from shore. This wreck is rarely dived since it is very difficult to access due to the dangerous shallow shoals of Cape Hurd. |
